THE SEVEN STEPS TO MDS ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Helllos :) :)

Well.. I am Back again. Your own Dr.Suresh Shenvi :)

It has been exactly 5 years since I was  reading in  KLE Dental college reading room.  Life is sooo different now. Working as staff in the same institute makes you realize that time has changed so much. Students have BIG BRAINS BUT NOT THE BIG DREAMS. Just kidding

But Staff life surely  has given  me an opportunity to revisit my past. Well.. I was much more sincere and more dedicated and more goal oriented when I was a student. But the one fact  always remains the same even today.  LOST TIME NEVER COMES BACK

Well.. Its me here whose gonna revisit my my first blog which gave me a name in the entrance field. "HOW I PREPARED FOR MDS ENTRANCE DURING MY INTERNSHIP"

Here its me who is again  trying to give you a blue print for the whole year preparation. Although my earlier blogs were very well  written but I have realized that not many have the patience to read such a big blog. I do wonder that how can someone clear an entrance by reading whole year when they don't have the patience to read a blog. I hope you all do visit my earlier blogs for complete idea of preparation which covers almost all aspects of the preparation. This blog does include all those important points which you need to know before you plan to start reading for entrance.

A good author always finds many critics.  I am sure many wont like these advises. You all should know that THIS IS SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR INTERNS DONT HAVE MUCH IDEA AND END UP WASTING THEIR PRECIOUS 10 months for JUST NOTHING. My ultimate aim has been to inspire those who always hoped it as a dream. And those sincerely attend the internship , do find less time for preparation and not much guidance from anyone. Well.. this gonna help you a lot big time .. For those who have whole day or taking a break of year will also  benefited from it. You can always modify it . You all are smart enough. I have no doubt in that :)

THE FIRST STEP- THE START

THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT IN STARTING  ENTRANCE PREPARATION IS THE “START IT SELF”

The more time you waste in taking the first step.. the more chances that you going to loose the battle.
I am sure most of the college must have already completed the annuals.  Infact this is the exact time when we started preparing for entrance.. SO FOR THOSE WHO THINK ITS TOO LATE??? ..THERE IS NO WRONG TIME TO DO RIGHT THING.

I have divided the next 10 months and have tried to allot time for each subject so that it gives you a clear vision and a goal. The time table has been framed keeping in mind of  the brain of an average student and not the brilliant one.. And I hope this helps you.So here it goes.. APRIL to JANUARY  AND YOUR TIME STARTS NOW

1 April  to 6  April
Oral pathology
7  April to 13 April
Cons and Endodontics
14  April to 20 April
Prosthodontics
21 April to 27  April
Periodontics
28 April to 4 May
Community dentistry
5 May to 11 May
Radiology
12 May to 18 May
Orthodontics
19 May to 25 May
Oral surgery
26 May to 1 June
Pedodontics
2 June to 7 June
Dental Materials
8 June to 14 June
Anatomy
15  June to 21 June
Dental Anatomy and histology
22 June to 28 June
Physiology
29 June to 5 July
Biochemistry
6  July to 12 July
Pathology
13  July to 19 July
General Surgery
20  July to 26 July
General Medicine
27 July to 2 August
Pharmacology
Difficult isn’t it?? .. I know.. But always remember that SUCCESS IS THE JOURNEY AND NOT THE DESTINATION.

I have given 7 days for each subject. But not all require the same time. So you can always cut short the days alloted to you. But its important that you keep a deadline for it.  I personally finished the preparation of first reading in 2.5 months. and I prepared from March start. So its up to you how serious you are and HOW MUCH YOU ARE STRONG TO PUSH YOURSELF.. NOTHING IS EASY

THE BIG QUESTION  -WHAT TO READ???

Well.. for someone who attends the internship sincerely, Its almost impossible to get more than 4 – 5 hours with that much of concentration to grasp all the details. Hence reading theory is almost impossible. But few do make it a possibility. I was never one of them. I here to tell you the best possible way..And Its always retrograde. And if someone says that’s  its impossible to get a seat by reading MCQ books, then please do meet me. I will show you thousands of students who did it at the end.

THE TIME SCHEDULE

One should  always remember that there is a lot of time  left after July as most of the students are done with the internship. You can alwys use such extra time and finish your first reading bit faster.. isnt it?? :) . I am also giving you the time management here. And hope that its useful

DURING INTERNSHIP
9.30 am to 10.30  am

In department  when you don’t have cases
2 pm- to 3 pm
In department when you don’t have much time much case
5 pm  to 6  pm
Sleep well as you are tired :)
6 pm to 8.30 pm
Read well
8.30 pm to 10 pm
Dinner  break
10 pm to 12 pm
Late night reading
ONE CAN ALWAYS SHIFT FROM NIGHT TO MORNING IF SOMEONE HAS THE COURAGE TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AT 6 :p
Do make lot of memories rest of the time in the department

WHICH BOOK TO READ

One can always start with DENTEST OR PULSE DEPENDING on his level of understanding.

Personally We have done lot of work in the new edition of DENTEST BY GOWRISHANKAR and hope that students do go through it to understand the subject better. Its neatly arranged with lesser mistakes and more recent things included.

Few facts to remember when you are reading for first time

  • Don’t bother about how much you know at start
  • Don’t think about getting a seat. Rather understand the subject
  •  Don’t go too much in depth in first reading. Completing the first reading is the most important thing .
  • Don’t think that you have an excellent brain which remembers eveything. That’s not possible ;)
  • The revision is the most important thing then comes the knowledge
Lately many Orthodontics  questions are lifted from the MCQ in Orthodontics  by JITENDRA SHARAN. Periodontics  is always asked from the Prabhakar.
Do remember that one who has read sincerely in last few months can easily push him or her self to atleast 10 hours a day. It means that you need lot more less time to read this time for each subject as you are getting 10 hours per day in contrast to 4 hours before. And this time your speed of preparation is much faster than earlier as this is the 2nd revision. I don’t know how much time will you take,, but Its imp that you now fasten your seat belts now :P

THE SECOND STEP - THE PROGRESS

Once you enter the 2nd reading.. you are probably done with the internship and now you have ample amount of time to read whole day.

I did try to make framework for you so that you read whole day when you are done with internship and here it is :)

 9 am -10  am
Neeraj wadhwan Aipg Dental papers
10 am - 1 pm
(Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – Clinical volume)
1.30 pm  to 4.30  pm
Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – Clinical volume .
(If you have read Dentest in morning then pulse in afternoon)
5.30 pm to  8 pm
(Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – basic volume)
8 pm  to  11 pm
Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – Clinical volume .
(If you have read Dentest in evening then pulse in Night)
11 pm to 12 pm
Dental papers from Many books.. One paper at one time

THE THIRD STEP - BOOSTER DOSE

Once you are done with the two revisions  THEN  ITS TIME YOU ADD MORE.. MORE KNOWLEDGE TO YOUR SELF. You always need to add few extra important books to you preparation.

Shift the morning 9- 10 time for MUDHIT KHANNA MEDICAL AIPG PAPERS once done with Neeraj Wadhwan atleast two times.

Its time for AIIMS which will be in the month of November. Before one month its imp that you plan for special revisions for the same.

THE FORTH STEP - THE EYE OPENER

Friends .. You will actually know where you stand once you are done with Aiims exam. Now it’s the time that you  realise that exams are not difficult and mostly consists for repeated things and which are almost there in the books which you read but missed out while you were reading. So its time to stop getting in too much of detail and revise as much as possible. and thats the KEY FOR THE SUCCESS IN THE ENTRANCE. REVISE.

Few imporant points at this stage :)

  • REVISE PULSE AND DENTEST MORE
  • If you have read pulse whole year then only do new questions from the other books and vice verse
  • Give more importance to synopsis and give more time to new questions.
  • Read the discussion of new question details
  • Do a smart study, Know what you don’t know
  • Revise dental papers from dental bytes .. always go from recent to old papers

THE FIFTH STEP - THE BATTLE

Friends.. The AIPG exams is generally on 12th January. So you do have 10 days to read once the December is over, Here its important that you read the difficult subject 5 days before the exam so that you at least remember the repeated questions. Go through medical papers of last 4 years. Only question  and answer is important here. Dont try to read everything Dont make it a mess :) And dont overburn your self. Its not the last day which matters.. its the whole year. Remember Hard work always beats the luck :)

THE SIXTH STEP- THE AFTER EFFECT

There are hell lot of exams after AIPG. One needs to remember that revising all the dental papers is important  for any other exams. Just reading papers restricted to that exam wont help much.

And do not forget to medical comed k and kcet papers for you dental exams atleast of last 3 years. Only question and answer is enough here too :).. But the big thing... Revise only one book. Dentest or Pulse which you read whole year :)

                               THE SEVENTH  STEP

This is generally taken by the government :P Well.. by far those who managed to reach this end must be wondering why the hell I m confusing you all with so many exam.. :) I know..Friends.. Right now the NEET is not final . And since last many years it has been seen that the verdict are bound to change at any time. If its a NEET then there wont be any confusion..One aim... One road. But as right now the verdict is still pending.. I preferred to believe that all the exams will be on next year too..

Anyway.. My blogs always  end with an inspirational  note.. so does this time.. I was A STUDENT till 6 months back. The real world is quite different for sure. The student life is something always cherishable.. Getting an MDS seat always gives you that extended three years of such life which will change your life forever. Pg is something which is very stressful, very memorable. It does prepare you to get back to life with an hope that you will fight no matter what life throws at you. It never leaves you empty. When you come out it does give you handful of memories which are worth treasuring.

I am not here to tell you that you have to do MDS.. Its up to you.. But whats imp is you give your 100 % to  preparation and end up somewhere the PG is good. Doing PG is important to learn and growth but doing it under a good guide, and good department , in a good branch and too many number of patients.. bad patients :P is most important.

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the

paint on it you can...I did.. Its your turn now. :)

Do read my other blogs if you find time and wish you get more detailed idea on

HOW  I PREPAREED FOR MDS ENTRANCE DURING MY INTERNSHIP.

http://ajourneytopast.blogspot.in/2009/04/how-i-prepared-for-mds-entrance.html

Yeh… It was around 4 years back.. When I made an effort to pen down the thoughts from my life.. my entrance life.. and surprisingly .. I never thought it will reach so many.. I mean.. today it gave me an identity. The best things.. it showed the ray of hope for those who thought it will never happen.. I don’t expect all those who got a seat will remember me.. but I am thankful to god.. every single day.. Yeh.. I made a difference.:)

It has been quite some time since I wrote down something.. and I guess I will meet your expectations this time too. But I do feel that most of the things are much clearer now than how things were before few years back.. well.. one things hold true for sure…EYERYTHIING CHANGES EXCEPT CHANGE” J

Although I might be bit old in the field in of entrance now.. but even today I am still trying my best to show students the right way of preparing for the same. And. I am still in young anywayJ

I am not gonna tell you more about how to prepare about for MDS entrance. You can always google about it and I am sure you will find my blogs on many sites... but I will  surely try to explain  how things have been changing from past 5 years in the field of exams , to the fee structure.. and the attitude of the student too..

WHATS NEET?

It has been quite some time.. or may be a year since the students have been wondering about National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for Postgraduate

Dear friends.. I feel surprised when students ask me about the NEET... Well.. in a way they are right too.. but does the exams really matter at the start of preparation..I don’t think so.. if someone has read for whole year he will be strong enough to face any kind of change.. opportunity only dances with those who are already on the dance floor… are you on the dance floor?

I am sure .. there is lot many info on many website.. they all make you feel as if the NEET is something so different from any examination and inturn they make students feel more  stressed just after hearing about it..

Chalo.. lets make it simple ..NEET.. its almost similar like any  AIPG EXAMINATION which earlier used to include  seats of the government colleges.. but now.. the same result will be applicable for all the colleges all over India.. Yeh.. SINGLE CET.. its that simple. Basically it means that one exam for all the total MDS seats in the India.

I do feel that its going to benefit in a lot many ways.. but it does have its  own disadvantages.. but when it comes to students.. Do you really think that’s gonna make a big difference in the success of the students in the field of  entrance.. I don’t.. Infact I feel it will be challenging to students.. it’s a new pattern.. single exam.. still the same reservation policy and higher fee structure. When is that gonna change??

For those who have read whole year.. do you really think  that  giving extra 2 – 3 exams will be more stressful.. I indeed feel that giving multiple exams will strengthen the way the student gonna think for next exams.. . that means you do have an option still if you don’t perform good  in one.. Which is quite good in a way.. there are many times where a students might not perform good or able to appear for that exams..  it does feel harsh to see one exam  sealing the fate of many. But we do need to understand that the same type of examination are conducted in the other fields.. but this will only help when all the things are well managed and well organized .. rather than just making it a big deal for any students and not providing them with any complete idea regarding the same.

I do feel that there are more challenges which needs to be addressed  like job opportunities, reservation aspect, financial support than just simplifying the exam pattern.

But one big advantage of conducting single cet is the uniformity  in the exam pattern.. we all need to agree for this fact for sure and I am sure.. the AIIMS institute has always been stood up for same and it will.. this time too. We have no doubt for the same.

But I don’t think there is any provision for challenging the questions here. Is there any?? . one will not get a question paper.. the advantage of COMED..KCET is no more found in NEET

SO DOES IT GONNA CHANGE THE WAY YOU NEED TO PREPARE FOR EXAMS..?

I have been getting lot many mails. Lot many calls asking for the type of preparation for NEET.  we all should know that,, we are not from the future... nobody knows how it will be. A person will be lying a lot if he comments on  the examination pattern when no one has actually seen it once yet.. but one thing is for sure.. AIIMS gonna conduct it.. This does mean that it will be somewhat similar to the AIPG examination.

But  based on what  I have been reading or hearing.. the answer is YESSSSSSS. It needs a different kind of a approach.

Its gonna be quite similar to the  session wise exams on a computer. Remember that MANIPAL examination.. . its quite different feeling and students are not much well versed with the procedure Yet.. You don’t get much of a feel in answering the computer based examination which is quite a disadvantage.

But when it comes to the preparation aspect.. One should remember few points..

You Don’t have a second chance!!! What does this mean for a student.. ?? ..This means .. you can not  just read one book and go there.. and be a topper.. Believe me.. you cant.. As the exams will be session wise.. the paper will be set from a huge question bank..It wont be too much different from the normal examination.. That’s basically impossible.. they do have to keep in mind that students need to score atleast 50%.. atleast most of those students who will appear for it.. no one can shift too far from basics. Do expect around 60 % repeated question from books.. directly or indirectly. don’t even think of expecting a rank without entering the competition without  reading the old papers.. the whole entrance is based on one simple fact.. read .. and Remember

But is that enough??..

Believe me.. you gonna have lot many new questions there.. right from the textbooks.. Chill..don’t be scared here.. no one can go back and read  all those big big textbooks in a year.. its almost impossible.. I have been solving papers for the mcq books and I have seen them lifting question from .. god knows anywhere which is not related to most of us..

But does it really matter.. not at all..  one thing one should remember that.. most of you will end up marking wrong in such new question. Guess work never works in entrance .. especially when there is single exam and almost all will appear for the same.. Almost all of you mark wrong. so ultimately you are no different.. all are at an equal stage,, but what if you go wrong in one or the questions which was there in a explanation part of an MCQ books.. well.. that gonna cost you too much… every single marks gonna make a lot of difference as there is just one exams

Gone those old days when students used to mark 200 of 200 question thinking that they will get a rank.. if NEET does happen for dental then , you will have to be very serious and very choosy in marking the answers.. each mark gonna change your fate for sure.

My best advice is not to leave a single book which  has been recently a source of the mcq for the entrance book..

There are lot many books

our own DENTEST which has been recently updated fully with complete new look.. we did include the latest topics.. framed new questions.. reduced the number of mistakes

The Dental bytes volume III containing almost all the latest papers. The papers are totally different from the old version of dental bytes or any other books

The sixth edition of dental pulse  and  the new dental explore is released too

I did hear that the recent ortho questions were lifted from MCQ IN ORTHODONTICS BY Dr.Jitendra sharan.  Well  I do feel one can expect a lot from this in the next exam too.

Leaving even a single book gonna make a big difference and we all know. One has to work hard now.. Remember.. There is no shortcut to success!!!

WHAT DIFFERENCE WE CAN EXPECT IN THE QUESTION PATTERN.?

The questions will be single answer  objective type. Similar to any exam.. Each answer with  correct answer shall be awarded four marks. One mark will be deducted for  each wrong answer.  So it does have a negative marking..

Friends.. it has been 4 years I have been solving the papers.. I have seen one basic fact when it comes to new question.. specially the dental part.

They ask you clinically oriented questions now a days. For example.. most of them are lifted from the case based kind of question.. like the latest modalities in the treatment..

Here is an example..

Which component of the triple anitbotic paste leads to discouration of tooth..Well answer is surely Minocycilne. They do want to test your updated knowledge, well. This is bit too much to expect.. but yes.. one will surely find such  info only if you read the new editions of the books ..so always read the new edition.

Some are directly pick from the latest MCQ textbook in market.. the only option is reading such imp mcq books.. the authors take an outmost care while setting the question in the new book.. and its mostly all new types of question.. so the examiners tend to lift the same.. which is almost equal to lifting the questions from the textbook itself… don’t be choosy in reading books..  you are not the examiners.. isn’t it??

WHAT IS THE CURRENT SCENARIO OF NEET ..?

Interim Order by Supreme court NEET PG Case which told to Continue the Existing System. All Pg entrance exams by state and central Governments, and Institutions can conduct their Own Entrance tests.
Final Hearing on Jan 15, 16, 17..

We really don’t know what judgment it will be… but well.. what we do know is  students should not waste too much of their time in reading the news than reading the textbooks.

WILL THERE BE ANY NEET THIS YEAR.?

Well.. I do feel that its gonna be this year.. if not then next year for sure..  but we definitely don’t know whether there wont be other exams.. one can always challenge the verdict and win the case.. so.. fingers crossed. But as far as medical NEET.. its gonna be there for sure.. Dental.. well .. we need to wait for the verdict.

SHOULD I FILL THE OTHER FORMS OF PRIVATE EXAMINATION.?

You all must have already been seeing the notification about the private colleges.. well.. I do feel that one should fill all the form of private exams.. like comed.. manipal.. kle.. nitte..

Why?? Well.. you  never know when the thing change. anything can happen here:P
The best thing one can do at this stage is go  fill the form and in case there is no other exams.. it becomes mandatory for the respective authorities  to pay you back the examination fees .. may be not in a month.. but you surely gonna get it after few months. So why wonder about the other examination when you can just fill it and concentrate more on studies.

When is the NEET exmanination ?

Well.. here is the projected time table.

Which is the official site for NEET PG MDS registration

Whats imp before registering for NEET??

Well.. one has to read the prospectus properly before filling the form… here is the link for the same

How are the seats allotted ?

Well.. you get both all India ranking and state wise ranking..its still unclear about the way the  private seats allotted .. I guess we need to still wait for the right info which may be only available after the conduct of examination.

Is there will be any change in fee structure ?

Well.. we don’t  know how things will be.. especially when you try to restrict the private colleges here.. we certainly can expect a hike of fees in colleges.. marginally.. if not a huge.. but why fear. When still rank is not near.. lol :P

Your only aim at this moment should be getting a rank.. hoping to end up in a GDC .. rest will follow.. after all everything happens for a reason.

The final verdict.

Well.. I don’t want  to drag this anymore.. This exam should not be a big deal for some one who has a courage to face the challenges of the world.. Doing an MDS should be a dream of own.. and its only then you will end up making it a reality.. just getting an seat is not important. World is too competitive. . getting  a good branch.. good college.. most importantly good guide .. that’s the most imp aspect of any post graduate degree.
Future comes once a day.. future of NEET is still hanging in the Supreme court. And your future is with you anyway.

Remember.. No one can write your success story..
its you whose holding the pen ..

 write a beautiful one J
