THE SEVEN STEPS TO MDS ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Helllos :) :)

Well.. I am Back again. Your own Dr.Suresh Shenvi :)

It has been exactly 5 years since I was  reading in  KLE Dental college reading room.  Life is sooo different now. Working as staff in the same institute makes you realize that time has changed so much. Students have BIG BRAINS BUT NOT THE BIG DREAMS. Just kidding

But Staff life surely  has given  me an opportunity to revisit my past. Well.. I was much more sincere and more dedicated and more goal oriented when I was a student. But the one fact  always remains the same even today.  LOST TIME NEVER COMES BACK

Well.. Its me here whose gonna revisit my my first blog which gave me a name in the entrance field. "HOW I PREPARED FOR MDS ENTRANCE DURING MY INTERNSHIP"

Here its me who is again  trying to give you a blue print for the whole year preparation. Although my earlier blogs were very well  written but I have realized that not many have the patience to read such a big blog. I do wonder that how can someone clear an entrance by reading whole year when they don't have the patience to read a blog. I hope you all do visit my earlier blogs for complete idea of preparation which covers almost all aspects of the preparation. This blog does include all those important points which you need to know before you plan to start reading for entrance.

A good author always finds many critics.  I am sure many wont like these advises. You all should know that THIS IS SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR INTERNS DONT HAVE MUCH IDEA AND END UP WASTING THEIR PRECIOUS 10 months for JUST NOTHING. My ultimate aim has been to inspire those who always hoped it as a dream. And those sincerely attend the internship , do find less time for preparation and not much guidance from anyone. Well.. this gonna help you a lot big time .. For those who have whole day or taking a break of year will also  benefited from it. You can always modify it . You all are smart enough. I have no doubt in that :)

THE FIRST STEP- THE START

THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT IN STARTING  ENTRANCE PREPARATION IS THE “START IT SELF”

The more time you waste in taking the first step.. the more chances that you going to loose the battle.
I am sure most of the college must have already completed the annuals.  Infact this is the exact time when we started preparing for entrance.. SO FOR THOSE WHO THINK ITS TOO LATE??? ..THERE IS NO WRONG TIME TO DO RIGHT THING.

I have divided the next 10 months and have tried to allot time for each subject so that it gives you a clear vision and a goal. The time table has been framed keeping in mind of  the brain of an average student and not the brilliant one.. And I hope this helps you.So here it goes.. APRIL to JANUARY  AND YOUR TIME STARTS NOW

1 April  to 6  April
Oral pathology
7  April to 13 April
Cons and Endodontics
14  April to 20 April
Prosthodontics
21 April to 27  April
Periodontics
28 April to 4 May
Community dentistry
5 May to 11 May
Radiology
12 May to 18 May
Orthodontics
19 May to 25 May
Oral surgery
26 May to 1 June
Pedodontics
2 June to 7 June
Dental Materials
8 June to 14 June
Anatomy
15  June to 21 June
Dental Anatomy and histology
22 June to 28 June
Physiology
29 June to 5 July
Biochemistry
6  July to 12 July
Pathology
13  July to 19 July
General Surgery
20  July to 26 July
General Medicine
27 July to 2 August
Pharmacology
Difficult isn’t it?? .. I know.. But always remember that SUCCESS IS THE JOURNEY AND NOT THE DESTINATION.

I have given 7 days for each subject. But not all require the same time. So you can always cut short the days alloted to you. But its important that you keep a deadline for it.  I personally finished the preparation of first reading in 2.5 months. and I prepared from March start. So its up to you how serious you are and HOW MUCH YOU ARE STRONG TO PUSH YOURSELF.. NOTHING IS EASY

THE BIG QUESTION  -WHAT TO READ???

Well.. for someone who attends the internship sincerely, Its almost impossible to get more than 4 – 5 hours with that much of concentration to grasp all the details. Hence reading theory is almost impossible. But few do make it a possibility. I was never one of them. I here to tell you the best possible way..And Its always retrograde. And if someone says that’s  its impossible to get a seat by reading MCQ books, then please do meet me. I will show you thousands of students who did it at the end.

THE TIME SCHEDULE

One should  always remember that there is a lot of time  left after July as most of the students are done with the internship. You can alwys use such extra time and finish your first reading bit faster.. isnt it?? :) . I am also giving you the time management here. And hope that its useful

DURING INTERNSHIP
9.30 am to 10.30  am

In department  when you don’t have cases
2 pm- to 3 pm
In department when you don’t have much time much case
5 pm  to 6  pm
Sleep well as you are tired :)
6 pm to 8.30 pm
Read well
8.30 pm to 10 pm
Dinner  break
10 pm to 12 pm
Late night reading
ONE CAN ALWAYS SHIFT FROM NIGHT TO MORNING IF SOMEONE HAS THE COURAGE TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AT 6 :p
Do make lot of memories rest of the time in the department

WHICH BOOK TO READ

One can always start with DENTEST OR PULSE DEPENDING on his level of understanding.

Personally We have done lot of work in the new edition of DENTEST BY GOWRISHANKAR and hope that students do go through it to understand the subject better. Its neatly arranged with lesser mistakes and more recent things included.

Few facts to remember when you are reading for first time

  • Don’t bother about how much you know at start
  • Don’t think about getting a seat. Rather understand the subject
  •  Don’t go too much in depth in first reading. Completing the first reading is the most important thing .
  • Don’t think that you have an excellent brain which remembers eveything. That’s not possible ;)
  • The revision is the most important thing then comes the knowledge
Lately many Orthodontics  questions are lifted from the MCQ in Orthodontics  by JITENDRA SHARAN. Periodontics  is always asked from the Prabhakar.
Do remember that one who has read sincerely in last few months can easily push him or her self to atleast 10 hours a day. It means that you need lot more less time to read this time for each subject as you are getting 10 hours per day in contrast to 4 hours before. And this time your speed of preparation is much faster than earlier as this is the 2nd revision. I don’t know how much time will you take,, but Its imp that you now fasten your seat belts now :P

THE SECOND STEP - THE PROGRESS

Once you enter the 2nd reading.. you are probably done with the internship and now you have ample amount of time to read whole day.

I did try to make framework for you so that you read whole day when you are done with internship and here it is :)

 9 am -10  am
Neeraj wadhwan Aipg Dental papers
10 am - 1 pm
(Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – Clinical volume)
1.30 pm  to 4.30  pm
Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – Clinical volume .
(If you have read Dentest in morning then pulse in afternoon)
5.30 pm to  8 pm
(Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – basic volume)
8 pm  to  11 pm
Dentest by Gowrishankar or Pulse – Clinical volume .
(If you have read Dentest in evening then pulse in Night)
11 pm to 12 pm
Dental papers from Many books.. One paper at one time

THE THIRD STEP - BOOSTER DOSE

Once you are done with the two revisions  THEN  ITS TIME YOU ADD MORE.. MORE KNOWLEDGE TO YOUR SELF. You always need to add few extra important books to you preparation.

Shift the morning 9- 10 time for MUDHIT KHANNA MEDICAL AIPG PAPERS once done with Neeraj Wadhwan atleast two times.

Its time for AIIMS which will be in the month of November. Before one month its imp that you plan for special revisions for the same.

THE FORTH STEP - THE EYE OPENER

Friends .. You will actually know where you stand once you are done with Aiims exam. Now it’s the time that you  realise that exams are not difficult and mostly consists for repeated things and which are almost there in the books which you read but missed out while you were reading. So its time to stop getting in too much of detail and revise as much as possible. and thats the KEY FOR THE SUCCESS IN THE ENTRANCE. REVISE.

Few imporant points at this stage :)

  • REVISE PULSE AND DENTEST MORE
  • If you have read pulse whole year then only do new questions from the other books and vice verse
  • Give more importance to synopsis and give more time to new questions.
  • Read the discussion of new question details
  • Do a smart study, Know what you don’t know
  • Revise dental papers from dental bytes .. always go from recent to old papers

THE FIFTH STEP - THE BATTLE

Friends.. The AIPG exams is generally on 12th January. So you do have 10 days to read once the December is over, Here its important that you read the difficult subject 5 days before the exam so that you at least remember the repeated questions. Go through medical papers of last 4 years. Only question  and answer is important here. Dont try to read everything Dont make it a mess :) And dont overburn your self. Its not the last day which matters.. its the whole year. Remember Hard work always beats the luck :)

THE SIXTH STEP- THE AFTER EFFECT

There are hell lot of exams after AIPG. One needs to remember that revising all the dental papers is important  for any other exams. Just reading papers restricted to that exam wont help much.

And do not forget to medical comed k and kcet papers for you dental exams atleast of last 3 years. Only question and answer is enough here too :).. But the big thing... Revise only one book. Dentest or Pulse which you read whole year :)

                               THE SEVENTH  STEP

This is generally taken by the government :P Well.. by far those who managed to reach this end must be wondering why the hell I m confusing you all with so many exam.. :) I know..Friends.. Right now the NEET is not final . And since last many years it has been seen that the verdict are bound to change at any time. If its a NEET then there wont be any confusion..One aim... One road. But as right now the verdict is still pending.. I preferred to believe that all the exams will be on next year too..

Anyway.. My blogs always  end with an inspirational  note.. so does this time.. I was A STUDENT till 6 months back. The real world is quite different for sure. The student life is something always cherishable.. Getting an MDS seat always gives you that extended three years of such life which will change your life forever. Pg is something which is very stressful, very memorable. It does prepare you to get back to life with an hope that you will fight no matter what life throws at you. It never leaves you empty. When you come out it does give you handful of memories which are worth treasuring.

I am not here to tell you that you have to do MDS.. Its up to you.. But whats imp is you give your 100 % to  preparation and end up somewhere the PG is good. Doing PG is important to learn and growth but doing it under a good guide, and good department , in a good branch and too many number of patients.. bad patients :P is most important.

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the

paint on it you can...I did.. Its your turn now. :)

Do read my other blogs if you find time and wish you get more detailed idea on

I have a confusion regarding the description reading. Is that necessary to read the description? Or only the question and answer is enough?
